Unicam testimonial - Production thinking, rather than one-off thinking, benefits Unicam
Although Unicam has been a leader in entertainment systems – in car particularly – for many years, we are a relatively small company, without ‘experts’ in every discipline.
Anticipating a significant upturn in demand some two years ago we therefore decided to step out of the company and introduce some new thinking into our production processes.
Through MAS we applied for, and got, the opportunity to work with David Brannock and, working closely with our Production Manager, it became apparent we were over-customising our offer to the consumer.
Almost everything we were making was a one off!
Without losing an iota of quality, we pretty much standardised everything that could be standardised: ‘If it has wheels these are the ones, if it needs a handle this is the one’ type of thing.
We moved from one off thinking to production thinking with its consequent benefits. It was fabulous!
We obviously saw fiscal benefits, but the biggest benefit long term is that we’re still using many of the principles David introduced, both in the UK and Europe operations.
We also proved the theory that people will often listen to an experienced ‘outsider’ like a message from God, rather than ‘management’.We’ve a lot of time for David, and I even used much of the stuff we learned for my doctorate!”
